Juliet D'Souza and/or Nancy Ocken host this monthly series called Wildlife Wednesdays at the Freeport Public Library.  During the program, there is a special story time followed by an activity related to the theme.  Appropriate audience is two to seven year olds.

Field TripsField Trip to Nicholas Conservatory -- sign up required by January 28

Staples Parking Lot
Take a break from winter! Join us for a guided tour and great lunch at Illinois' third Largest  conservatory. Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens is located at 354 N. 2nd St in Rockford, IL.  The facility offers tropical plants, water features, sculptures, and seating area.  The annual orchid exhibit  includes hundreds of species of tropical orchids creatively arranged throughout the conservatory.

Attendance is limited and sign-ups are required by January 28.  Attendees should plan to meet at the Staples parking lot, 1724 S. West Ave, Freeport by 10:00 am to carpool to the Conservatory with an expected return at 2:30 pm.  Cost is the price for entry into the conservatory and your lunch option.  The general admission is $8.00 and senior admission (65+) is $6.00. Lunch prices range from $4.00 to $8.00. Please call Chris Kruger at 815-238-9259 to confirm attendance and your lunch choice (see page 3 of our Febraury/March newletter for lunch menu).

A 'Conservation Conversation' will be held at Amigo's Restaurant on the corner of Galena and Clark in downtown Freeport.  The casual gathering is open to all and begins with supper ordered from the menu at 5:30.  Good food and friendly conversation about current environmental and conservation issues is the order of the day.  Please join us!

9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Lock and Dam 13
Join us to observe populations of wintering bald eagles and other early migrating waterfowl as we travel to Lock and Dam 13 on the Mississippi River.  Dress in warm layers and meet at the Staples lot in Freeport at 9 a.m.  Bring you binoculars and camera.  We will find a restaurant for lunch around noon.  Expected return time is 2:00 p.m.

Call Laura Dufford (815-541-8958) if you would like to attend.  Sign-up is not mandatory, but helpful in planning the carpool or cancellation due to weather.
