We Supply: Tools, gloves, water, snacks and directions about our work always will be provided.

Field TripsField Trip: Hanley Savanna Prairie

Saturday, August 12, 2017
8 – 11:30 a.m.
Leader: Laura Dufford, 815-947-2720

Enjoy a walk around Hanley Savanna Prairie near Hanover. This 160 acre property is owned by Northwest IL Prairie Enthusiasts. There are many types of restoration on Hanley: dry to wet sand prairie, dry to mesic sand savanna, sand blowouts, and woodlands. We will
focus on the prairie areas and hope to get to the dry sand and oak
savanna areas.

The walk will be level, but there are no benches or shade, so be advised!! The prairie should be in full bloom and the butterflies and dragonflies should be plentiful. If we’re lucky we’ll see a Yellow-Breasted Chat. Wear long pants, and appropriate sun protection. Please bring water, and bug spray is also advisable.

Carpool from the Staples parking lot at 7:00 a.m. We will return to Freeport around 12:30.
