MeetingsNovember Program: Strategies for Blanding's Turtle Recovery in Illinois

Tuesday, November 5, 2019
7 p.m.
St. John United Church of Christ, 1010 Park Blvd., Freeport, IL
Presenter: Richard King, PhD, Biology, Northern Illinois University

The Blanding’s Turtle is an Illinois endangered species with a distribution limited to the northern third of the state. Its conservation and management is made challenging by a long lifespan (sexual maturity is not reached until 14-17 years of age) and its use of large expanses of both wetland and upland habitat. Dr. Richard King, Biology Professor at Northern Illinois will share information about the biology and status of this charismatic turtle in Illinois and what is being done to promote its recovery.

There is no article to read. We don’t need more information; we need action. Bring with you your ideas for solutions on the local, state, national and international levels, as well as meaningful steps we can take in our personal lives. Everyone is welcome.
