The Northwest Illinois Audubon Society was formed in 1971 and chartered in 1972 as a chapter of the National Audubon Society.
The National Society’s mission is:
To conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth’s biological diversity.
Our local Chapter’s purpose is
“To preserve and conserve our natural resources and to help local citizens connect with nature.”
Our Chapter’s strongest commitments are in the areas of
Habitat and wildlife preservation
Connecting people with nature – providing environmental education for people of all ages
Resource Protection
Our membership has grown from fewer than 30 in 1971
to more than 250.
Our Chapter’s activities are guided by an annually elected board.
